Definition: Active-Matrix Liquid Crystal Display: type of display using micro-electronic switches in series with each pixel to isolate pixels in order to apply individual voltages to turn them on or off. * By applying matrices of coloured filters - of red, blue and green - on the pixels it is possible to provide colour displays.
