3D head

Definition: Design of tripod head in which the camera can be adjusted in three mutually independent axes: (1) about a horizontal axis at right-angles to the optical axis i.e. to change elevation, looking downwards or upwards, (2) about an axis parallel with the optical axis i.e. to change orientation of the camera from landscape to portrait (3) about a vertical axis mutually at right-angles to the above axes i.e. to pan the camera. * Probably the most popular form for photography even though it is really unbalanced when the camera is turned on its side. Ideal, though, for waist-level finder cameras.
